New Contest

I mentioned that I escorted Joanne Fluke while she was in the Triangle last weekend. She spoke at the Page-Walker Cultural Arts Center in Cary, The Regulator Bookshop in Durham, Quail Ridge Books & Music in Raleigh, and McIntyre's Fine Books in Fearrington Village. We had great crowds at all her events—and folks were doubly rewarded for their attendance.

In addition to hearing her entertaining talks, Kensington Publishers sent red velvet cupcakes as a special treat.

Joanne graciously signed a hardcover of her latest Hanna Swenson mystery, Red Velvet Cupcake Murder for our last contest for Women's Mystery Month winner. Remember the rules:

List one of your favorite women mystery writers and write a comment about her or why you like her books.

My favorite Woman Mystery writer is Jacqueline Winspear. The Maisie Dobbs mystery series is captivating and special. Maisie is an original character for the period and the plot and locale for each novel is enthralling.

Deborah Crombie, whose books have that extraordinary ability to keep me riveted, is the mystery writer who is my favorite. The Gemma James and Duncan Kincaid duo detectives are real and make the books come alive. Deborah Crombie's books deal with many facets that are fascinating.

Actually Joanne is one of my favorite mystery writers. I love that she includes recipes - several of which I have made for my co-workers. Hanna is one of my favorite female sleuths.

A favorite is Kate Wilhelm because of her description of legal procedure.

Joanne is one of my favorites too. I like how she has a whole cast of characters who are in the books and you get to follow them as their lives and relationships change and grow. But I do wish Hanna would stop going back and forth between Mike and Norman.

Also I emailed Joanne with a question about adapting one of her cookie recipes and she was very helpful. It's now become my mother's favorite oatmeal cookie recipe. Her Peach Cobbler is really good too.

One of my favorite women mystery writers is Penny Warner because she has written several series that I have enjoyed and is currently writing a series I am also enjoying. We were neighbors for many years until I left California six months ago.
